Hotkeys

You can see a list hotkeys listed by category, and a cheat sheet (http://docs.pixologic.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/CheatSheet4R7.pdf) for some of the most useful hotkeys.

Setting Custom Hotkeys

  1. Press and hold CTRL + ALT (Windows) or Command + Option (Mac) and click on the interface item to which you want to assign a hotkey. This could be a button, a slider, or a palette.
  2. Press the key on your keyboard you want to assign the interface item to or press ESC to exit.

Assigning a Brush to a Hotkey
To assign a brush to a key follow the steps below:

  1. Press and hold CTRL + ALT (Windows) or Command + Option (Mac) and click on the brush in the Brush palette. You can click on a brush icon in the Brush palette or in the Brush pop-up.
  2. Press the key on your keyboard that you want to assign the interface item to or press ESC to exit.

Saving Your Hotkeys

  • To store your hotkeys so they are always useable press Preferences: Hotkeys: Store

You can also save your hotkeys in case you do not always want them assigned.

  • To save your hotkeys press Preference: Hotkeys: Save

The StartupHotkeys.txt file is stored in a Public folder on your computer.

Windows: Users\Public\Documents\ZBrushData\ZStartup\Hotkeys

Mac OSX: Users/Shared/ZBrushData/ZStartup/Hotkeys

Customizing Your Interface -
How to Move Elements Around
Before you're able to move anything, you must turn on Preferences > Config > Enable Customize. When you do this, you'll notice a slight jump in your interface, and you should now see an empty bottom shelf.
You're now ready to customize:
  1. Press and hold Ctrl + Alt (Windows) or Command + Option (Mac).
  2. Click and drag an item to your desired location.

Keep in mind these rules when customizing your interface:

  • The master menus (those that are built into the default ZBrush UI) may not be modified except through ZScripts or plug-ins. You may not drag items to move them around within/between these menus or to remove items from them.
  • Attempting to move an item from a master menu to an invalid location will have no effect.
  • Moving an item from a custom location to an invalid location removes the item. For example, dragging the SwitchColor button from the left shelf onto the canvas will remove the button from the shelf completely.
  • Menus are moved to the custom menu list or rearranged within it by dragging on the menu's name rather than its handle.
  • ZBrush tells you that you've found a valid location for an item by drawing a bounding box around the location as you get close to it.
  • Most valid locations will expand to accommodate items that are too large to fit the current size. This is especially true for the shelf areas. The custom menu list, however, can only have menu items placed side by side (as opposed to one above another).
  • Moving an item over another item already on the shelf or custom menu list will cause an overlap. This is not something that you want to do. You should always place items adjacent to each other or remove the previous item prior to placing the new one.

When you're finished customizing your interface:

  1. Turn off Enable Customize.
  2. Click Preferences > Config > Store Config or use the shortcut Ctrl + Shift + I (Windows) or Command + Shift + I (Mac) to store it and it will be loaded every time you start ZBrush.

Removing Interface Elements

If you want to remove an item from the interface, do the following steps:

  1. Turn on Enable Customize.
  2. Press and hold Ctrl + Alt (Windows) or Command + Option (Mac).
  3. Drag and drop the item over your canvas, and it will disappear.

Restore Default UI
Switching back to the default or Standard UI is as simple as clicking Preferences > Config > Restore Standard UI.

As long as you have stored your customized interface—by using Ctrl + Shift + I (or the Store Config button)—you can switch back to your personalized layout by going to Preferences > Config > Restore Custom UI.
